The company’s market watcher, iSuppli. 2008 is a year of disaster for most of the memory chip manufacturing. Revenue for nearly all of the suppliers decreased and the results are all negative for the semiconductor industry.
Dale Ford, senior Vice President of market intelligence services at iSuppli, stated that global semiconductor revenue is expected to rise two percent in 2008 from the sales of memory IC (Integrated circuits) of 16.9 percent. Only two of 29 IC suppliers are likely to increase in income in the year 2008, and the other, consider that in 2008 only disasters that obtainable.
However, the decline in income in the semiconductor industry is not only limited to the memory suppliers. Based on the opinion of iSuppli, six of the top 10 semiconductor suppliers have experienced a decline in income, including Texas Instruments and Sony. Ford explained, all the news related to the global economy crysis, so that orders for semiconductor decrease too.
Seeing the possibility of 20 semiconductor suppliers, the memory IC suppliers have also suffering the same. Worst performance was showed by Hynix semiconductor revenue dropped by 29.1 percent, and the rank fall to nine from ranked six in 2007. Meanwhile micron Technology also decreased to 9.2 percent in 2008, ranking slip to 16 from 15. For Samsung Electronics also fell to 9.1 percent in the year 2008.
